Maurice "Mo" Schutte

Maurice Schutte, CPFA, CEPA, CPWA

Senior Vice President/Investments

Mo’s fascination with the world of finance began decades before he made it his career.  In grade school, he attended a seminar provided by a major investment firm with his father, a self-employed business owner.  Having never sought assistance from any financial institution, Mo witnessed the stressful and costly financial mistakes made by his family (as business owners) – ones that could have potentially been avoided with the attention of a caring financial advisor.

Mo launched his financial career in 1997 at Dean Witter (now Morgan Stanley), eventually becoming a Branch Manager.  In 2005, Mo moved to Banc of America Premier Banking and Investments to leave management and work directly with clients.  In 2009, he transitioned to Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor.  He joined Stifel in 2021.

A three-time cancer survivor, Mo holds a place in his heart – and his practice – for good people who are hardworking, devoted to others, and know that money is not a priority but a tool for supplementing their lifestyle and legacy.  His mission is heartfelt – to support each client’s financial and physical health.  Whether it’s discussing medical health, ultimate goals, or intimate family issues, Mo believes that all clients see the value in his efforts and in the overall wealth planning experience he provides.

Having owned and sold real estate, he also recognizes the financial risks that business owners and many other clients face – that’s why he seeks to “tie it all together” and “simplify things” for clients – whether it be their personal and business interests, investments, liabilities, or trust and estate issues.  Mo feels privileged to help clients face life’s challenges with timely and thoughtful guidance structured to allow for thoughtful decisions, rather than emotional ones.

Mo is committed to bringing his clients the high degree of investment insight they deserve.  He attained and maintains several designations, including the CPWA® – Certified Private Wealth Advisor®, CPFATM – Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor, and CEPA – Certified Exit Planning Advisor designations.  Additionally, he holds Series 3, 7, 9 & 10, 31, 63, and 65 securities licenses.

Mo places tremendous emphasis on one area – the impact of taxes on his clients’ investments and financial goals.  That’s why he has formed solid relationships with several other advisors, including CPAs and estate attorneys, as knowledgeable resources in tailoring tax-advantaged investment strategies around his clients’ unique circumstances.

Mo and his wife, Jeanne, have been married for more than 25 years.  They enjoy parenthood and volunteer at his son’s school and are supporters of his hockey team.  They currently reside in Town and Country, Missouri, and believe in giving back to their community – they enjoy donating their time and resources to important causes.  Outside the office, Mo is a mediocre hockey player, plays golf and tennis, and takes pleasure in spending quality time with friends and family.

Use of the CEPA designation does not imply that Stifel or its associates are acting as experts in this field, nor do Stifel or its Financial Advisors provide legal or tax advice.  The knowledge gained from attaining the designation helps the advisor better understand issues specific to business owners in working with clients and their legal and tax advisors as it relates to the client’s overall investment planning and wealth management.
